A
short handed X squad came back from a 43-35 half time deficit to defeat
UQUAM by a score of 81-70 to claim their second consecutive Eric
Garland tournament.
For the second straight game, the
blue and white were without the services of Charlie Spurr (charlie
horse) and Will Silver (foot) and limited availabilty of Will Donkoh.
X put together a total team effort, with 6 players in double
digits. Jeremy Dunn led the team with 16 points, 12 rebounds and
6 assists. Alberto Rodriguez had another strong game with 15
points and 8 boards. T-Bear Upshaw kicked in 12 points and 5
assists, Riiny Ngot had 11 and 6 while Jordan Hope added 10
points.
The big story of the Garland tournament for X
fans has been the emergence of Jordan Clark as a big contributor.
Clarke saw significant action due to backcourt injuries and made
the most of his minutes. Clarke chipped in 10 points, 3 boards
and 5 assists and was named a tournament all star in only his 3rd
collegiate game. T-Bear Upshaw was named the tournament MVP.
X
plays next at the 31st annual X Invitational next weekend in
Antigonish. X will host SMU, UNB and Memorial. SMU and UNB
will tangle at 6 PM on Friday and X takes on Memorial at 8.
