Garry Gallimore scored 26 points and Neil MacDonald
scored 23 as the X-Men got a 82-67 win over Memorial.
This win guarantees X a first round bye in the AUS
playoffs and a likely second round matchup with Acadia.
This game was definitely closer than the final score
would indicate. In fact, the X-Men trailed in the
game until early in the second half. The game
started with the X-Men being flat and stagnant on
offence while the the Seahawks came out hitting on all
cylinders. MUN was hot from 3 point range and
built a lead of up to 10 points. X closed the gap
to 4 at the half on a Gallimore dunk. X started
the second half by going o a 11-3 run and never trailed
again. Memorial stayed close until the final 3
minutes when X pulled away.
Garry Gallimore was an offensive force for the blue and
white (26 points) doing most of his damage on
drives to the hoop. Neil MacDonald was pretty much
unstoppable in the post (23 points) and filled out the
stat sheet with 12 rebounds, 3 blocks and 3 assists.
Tyler Richards added 14 points, while Dwayne Johnson did
a good job for the X-Men with 11 points and 5 rebounds.
Terrance Taylor had a monster game on the boards hauling
down 12. A big key for the X-Men as they approach
the post season is the rebounding and interior defense
support they give to Neil MacDonald. Taylor
appears to be poised to play a big role in this area.
In this game the X-Men held a whopping 41-23 edge on the
boards. Sean Thistle led MUN with 23 points while
Justin Halleran added 16
