The X-Men played solid
basketball for 40 minutes and came away with a 86-65 win
over the Bishops Gaiters in the opening round of the
Pizza Delight Invitational. Interestingly, the Gaiters are
named after articles of clothing worn by clergy in the
19th century, and not after alligators. Live and
learn.
Anyhow, X was firing on all
cylinders in this contest at both ends of the court.
The team as led by Garry Gallimore's 17 points and 7
boards. Tyler Richards added 16 and Neil MacDonald
played a strong game with 15 points (on 7 of 10
shooting) and 8 boards. X' first year
players were impressive in the contest, led by Dwayne
Johnson's 12 points. Christian Upshaw and and
Alberto Rodriquez chipped in 8 apiece. Bishop's (coached
by former X-Man Eddie Pomykala) were led by Thorne with
21 points.
X tangles with arch rival CBU
in the tournament final at 8PM on Saturday. CBU
downed UNB 81-69 in the tournament opener.
