The blue and white went 3-0 to take the Mickey Place
tournament title in Charlottetown this weekend. In
the third game of this round robin tournament, X
defeated a tough York squad 89-77. Both teams
entered the final game at 2-0 for the tournament.
York had the edge in play early, but X took control and
never looked back by the mid-point of the first half. X
took a 47-39 lead at the half. The X-Men had five
players in double figures, led by player of the game
Neil MacDonald who had had a monster effort with 27
points and 6 rebounds. Garry Gallimore contributed 13
points, 8 boards. Tyler Richards also contributed
13 points. Rookies Christian Upshaw and Terrence
Taylor poured in 10 points apiece. Dwayne Johnson
kicked in 8 points. All of X's players had the
opportunity to see some action in this contest.
Garry Gallimore was named the tournament MVP.
Super-rookie Christian Upshaw was named a tournament
all-star in his first CIS action.
For the game, the X-Men shot 54% from the field and held
York to 41%. Coach Konchalski said he was very
pleased with how well his team played against a tough
and experienced York squad, especially considering how
early in the season it is. He characterized the 'W' as a
complete team effort.
