X-Men dominate UPEI
In a performance that can only be described as
dominating, the X-Men destroyed a very talented UPEI Panthers squad 94-60
this afternoon at the Oland Centre. The X-Men took control from the
opening tip led by the outside game of Zach Russell who score 15 in the
half on 5 three-pointers (on 6 attempts) and the inside game of Neil
MacDonald who was unstoppable and scored 12 points. At the half, the
X-Men led by 20, 50-30. The second half was more of the same.
The X-Men played great defense and never allowed the Panthers to get on
any kind of a run. Coach K was able to give everyone significant
minutes in the second half.
There were many good performances for the X-Men.
Neil MacDonald continued his great play in the second half of the season
and finished with 21 points and 9 boards. Both Zach Russell and Gary
Gallimore finished with 15 points. Russell also contributed 4
assists and 2 steals. John Bustin played a great game off the bench
with 12 points and 3 assists. Alex Stephens kicked in 10 points and
6 rebounds. Ed Reynolds had a game high 10 rebounds. Jon Bell
contributed a game high 7 assists to go with 2 steals. Reserve guard Mark
MacKenzie got significant minutes and did an excellent job running the
offense. UPEI's top scorer was Sherone Edwards who had 14 points on
6 of 19 shooting. For the game, the X-Men shot over 49% overall and
53% from 3 point land. The blue and white held the Panthers to a
miserable 30% shooting. The X-Men held a 44-27 edge on the boards.
X plays next vs. UNB on Saturday Feb 12th at 8PM
at the Oland Centre.
