X sweeps season series
with UNB
The blue and white recovered nicely from
their loss at UCCB earlier this week with a convincing 78-65 win over the
UNB Varsity Reds in Fredericton tonight. This is a game that the
X-Men controlled throughout, building leads in excess of 20 points at
several points in the contest.
Neil MacDonald was a force offensively and
defensively, leading the X-Men with a 16 point, 13 rebound double double.
Gary Gallimore also had a double double with 11 points and 11 boards. Jon Bell continued his strong play with 15 points, 4 rebounds and 2
steals. Alex Stephen contributed 12 points. Doug Thompson led the way for the Varsity Reds with 19 points.
For the game, the X-Men shot at a 51% clip
and held UNB under 36%. X outrebounded UNB by a 42-28 margin.
With this win, the X-Men clinched a first round bye in the AUS playoffs
and allowed the team to maintain a for 4 point cushion over the Capers
(who won at PEI tonight) for first place overall in the AUS standings. X
swept the season series this year with UNB, winning all 4 contests the
teams played.
X plays next on Feb 26th and 27th when they
host the much improved Memorial SeaHawks at the Oland Centre.
Saturday's contest is at 8PM and the teams play at 3 on Sunday.
