X drops second game of US swing

DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson men's basketball team rolled to a 94-66 victory over Saint Francis/Xavier in the Wildcats' lone exhibition game of the 2004-05 season at Belk Arena on Saturday afternoon. Senior Logan Kosmalski led the Davidson charge with 23 points on 10-of-12 from the field.

Juniors Ian Johnson and Brendan Winters also contributed double figures with 16 and 15 points, respectively. Winters grabbed a game-high eight rebounds and five assists. For the X-Men, Neil MacDonald scored 23 points on 7-of-10 from the field and 9-of-11 from the free throw line.

Three-pointer buckets by Kosmalski as well as juniors Eric Blancett and Kenny Grant led to a 13-4 run and an 11-point advantage for the home team midway through the opening half. Davidson held the comfortable lead for a solid five minutes before closing out the half with 10 straight points to take a 49-30 lead into the locker room.

Davidson shot nearly 61 percent from the field in the first half, including 6-of-13 from three-point territory. For the game, the 'Cats connected on over 53 percent of their shots, 55 percent from long range. The Wildcats also outrebounded Saint Francis/Xavier 40-31 and tallied six steals to the X-Men's three.

A Matt McKillop triple built the Wildcat lead to 30 points with 10:56 remaining in the game. The advantage would hover between 23 and 30 points for the remainder of the game as Davidson cruised to victory.

Twelve players saw action in the game for the 'Cats, including all three freshmen. Rookie guard Jason Richards scored two points and dished out four assists. Classmate Thomas Sander had five points and three rebounds and Boris Meno contributed four points and three boards.

Davidson opens the season on the road at Missouri on Friday, Nov. 19 at 8 p.m. (est). Saint Francis/Xavier will play one more game in the States before returning to Canada, facing Georgia on Sunday, Nov. 7 at 3 p.m.
